My Experience as a HUMSS Student

Senior year is certainly unlike anything else. It's the year of introspection, thorough preparation, and self-assertion in an ever-evolving world. For one student, this year would be such an intellectual journey with a personal exploration, as each new day would come with questions that would make society, identity, and the future intriguing questions.

Finding Your Passion in the Humanities

For me, the HUMSS subjects like philosophy, literature, and sociology presented an exciting start to the program at the beginning of my learning journey. Clearly, senior year has only deepened my interest in these subjects because I see human behavior, culture, and all the issues that shape the world around them. Through reflection through critical thinking and discussions, I could learn how to analyze issues of complexity, from historical events to current political dynamics, and how those affect the fabric of society.

I'm diving into political science, psychology, and the arts, in most cases, I find myself  connecting the dots between theory and reality. I'm learning that practically everything we are learning from a classroom is reflected in real life, which means that for people to be able to solve what appears to be larger societal issues, they have to understand people and their motivations.

The Emotional Rollercoaster of Senior Year

For a student to take the subject HUMSS, my year is as intellectually challenging as it is emotionally complex. Friendships are evolving as everybody sees things for different paths, and as the student can realize that while one chapter of life ends, another one very soon follows.

There's that pressure of finishing up projects, and even creative output, which honestly or even sometimes not, are a reflection of my insight into society. Most of these are not check-offs but chances for making their mark and showing how much they've grown.

The HUMSS journey actually ends at discovering the kind of person that I want to be in the world. As I prepare to take my next step, I know I'm ready for whatever comes next-for with a warm heart and a bright mind to set on making a difference.

I promised to myself that I will do my very best to finish the strand HUMSS!

Ariba, HUMANISTA! 💚
